Ok, my Chromecasts just arrived (at £15 a go, it was worth a shot). I plugged one into the same amp as my Squeezebox classic, with a similarly priced cable (3.5m>>2XRCA). I then fired up the same tune in LMS and in Plex (PMS, casting from my phone) and realised immediately that the PMS option is transcoding my FLAC files to something rubbish, sounded awful.
