I use Auto Dim Display for that on my SB3s. That's a plugin by Peter Watkins, but the repo on tux.org seems to be down... I have stuff in "/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/AutoDisplay", I could tar and PM you that if there is no other way.
