The only time I have seen that exact behavior with Spotify on my SB was when my Spotify account was playing on another device--not necessarily even a SB. Are you certain that your Spotify account is not playing on another device?
I am assuming you have read the other recent threads re: changes with Spotify in the LMS? Other than those two items to troubleshoot, I have no idea.
