Wow - heaps of really helpful info, thanks to all. I think my way forward will be to expand the capabilities of the RPI / picoreplayer and use with an attached drive ( I have a 3.5" 1tb drive I can try out). Then learn about samba. That will then leave me to save up for a new iMac ( just love the high res screen). As soon as I can crawl about on floors to sort out cabling etc ( managed to smash my left femur three weeks back so on crutches for quite a few weeks) I will get started. Thanks again
