Have you tried Stuart Hickinbottoms Lazy Music Search plugin?

To find the artist "Eagles", press the search button on the remote >
Artists > enter "3245" and up pops Eagles. The Byrds would be "2973",
ABBA "2222", etc.. The more letters (number buttons) you press the
better the search results.
See plugin's settings before using.
