Update, Ok, here's what went down last nite as well as some more background:
My MS MCE 2005 (emerald) machine serves multiple, defined purposes: 1. It is a dedicated HTPC, driving a HDTV via DVI. 2. It serves tunes via slimserver 3. It is a centralized media storage vault, housing digital photos, music, video and recorded TV. Prior to moving slimserver to this machine, it was configured for S3 standby; which was working perfectly. That is the power button on the MCE remote would bring the HTPC in and out of S3; and the machine would come out of S3 automatically to record a TV show or download the TV guide info, then go back to sleep. Then came microsoft's rollup2 to MCE (emerald) which essentially broke S3. Now, as long as the MCE UI is open, the PC will not automatically go into S3. Power button still worked fine, but if the HTPC wakes for a guide download or scheduled recording it no longer goes back to sleep. Between MS breaking S3 on MCE and slim devices (so far) only providing half-of the sleep-WOL solution (i.e. Squeezebox does not allow server to enter S3, keeping it awake w/ network activity); I decided to configure the HTPC as an always-on server. But, I don't want HDD's always spinning, so I configured power management for no S3, but HDD power-off after 30-minutes. Ok, last night I started a Prime95 torture test and launched slimserver via command line. I then installed softsqueeze and started a playlist with repeat on. Finally, while I was working onsetting this up, MCE notified me that it was recoding "American Dragon" (for my 6yo). When I woke this morning, the TV recording was fine, slimserver was still-up, my Squeezebox2 was working and softsqueeze was still cranking out the playlist. I guess I should be happy, but I'm not so sure the problem has been either identified or fixed. I'm wondering if the slimserver crash occurs when all players are turned off and the hard-drives are allowed to spin-down?? dfrazee -- TechHome ------------------------------------------------------------------------ TechHome's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2340 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=18237 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
