Sounds like you're starved for bandwidth.  This is 
understandable as most broadband connections are 
limited to 512 kbps or less upload.

Yes, you will need to convert on-the-fly to MP3. 
This is not in SoftSqueeze, this is in SlimServer.

Install the latest lame.exe into either the 
SlimServer folder or windows/system32.

Then in SlimServer go to Player Settings - Audio. 
   Your remote SoftSqueeze will still have to be 
up and running to see the options for the remote 
SoftSqueeze. Just hit refresh if it's not there. 
At the bottom of the page is Bitrate Limiting. 
The line before the drop-down box should say "The 
LAME encoder appears to be installed correctly on 
your system."  Then choose a bitrate.

Check your upload speed - 320 kbps may be too much 
for a "512 kbps" upload speed after overhead.
