Let's take an example and assume "D:\Music" is your root music folder
and you have a structure under this that's something like
"D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\[Songs]".
For absolute file locations in your playlist the song entries would be;

D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\song1
D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\song2
D:\Music\[Artist]\[Album]\song3

For playlists using relative file locations in the root music folder
"D:\Music\[Playlists]" the song entries would be;

[Artist]\[Album]\song1
[Artist]\[Album]\song2
[Artist]\[Album]\song3

In this manner I can copy my entire library (\Music\*), including
playlists, from a Windows PC to my android phone and not have to change
a thing. The relative position of the song files does not change across
platforms. I've not tested with *nix or Apple platforms, but I would
guess they would work the same as Android.
