Yes it's easy to temporarily connect them to ethernet but the location
is not someplace where I'd ever want to actually run a permanent cable.
Even if the cause is related to the WiFi, that doesn't actually help me
resolve anything since I won't ever be running a cable to that location
and, and if it still happens with Ethernet, then I have a faulty unit
and I'm stuck. Either way, I'd be replacing it with something that works
and I have a pi sitting around doing nothing, so might as well try that.
Also, if I unplug my AP and use that connection, I'd have no signal in
that area for like 10+ days since that's how long it usually takes to
manifest itself. i don't have any spare switches and don't want to buy
one just to test this, since once again, a wireless solution is desired
long term and if a picore player works, it solves my problems. I just
never thought about it since it's been sitting in a closet for the past
year or so.
