I will try the cable. Bummer is that the digi coax cable that I have been using is running in the wall upstairs and under the floorboards to my gear rack. I did run a couple of spares though when I did the wiring. I'll try just running a new one across the floor and up the stairs just to see if that might fix the problem.
The jack doesn't seem loose but checking solder joints might also be a good idea.
