Anyway - it's fixed and sorry for wasting your time. I just turned it off at the plug and left it off for an hour. Maybe before the off/on was too soon and some memory wasn't properly cleared. It would be useful for people searching for a similar problem to know what that previous buffer/memory message might be, but I can't remember it :-( Anyone know?
