I haven't tested the specific products you're asking about, but generally yes DAC technology hs come a long way in recent years, and you will probably find that SB3 sounds better than older high-end CD players. As for the sound card there should be no contest as sound card manufacturers generally don't pay too much attention to delivering clean power, even on the expensive models.
