What kind of router do you have?

You imply that it's wired.  Wired routers are very 
simple devices - firmware hardly affects how the 
10/100 links operate in the slightest, unlike 
wireless routers.

So your SB connects and gets an IP address but 
there's no data sent?  Sounds like cable trouble.
