This is exactly how I ripped all of my cds. I obtained a no longer used Asaca AM-750 (yes I'm a lucky duck) from work, and wrote the attached perl script. Its by no means portable or distribution ready, and calls a number of other publicly available scripts and perl modules that I have modified. If you (or anyone) are actually going to use it, I would be glad to round up the dependencies and help get it polished and setup with you.
I ripped over 700 cds with it myself, so I am quite sure it works. :)
It was nice having it going day and night doing my bidding.
Usage: $0 <command> [arg...]
--startslot <slot> slot to start ripping
ex. --startslot 0
--endslot <slot> slot to stop ripping
ex. --endslot 10
--drive <drvive> || --drive <drive> --drive <drive>
ex. --drive 0
ex. --drive 0 --drive 1 --drive 2 ...
