Trust me, I'm not holding back on a recommendation for a (nearly) perfect tagger - I really don't know of one! Mp3tag isn't too bad for fixing problems even with the non-preferred tags like "Composer" - you can select an entire directory of files (or several, joined together temporarily), and check or fix the value of the Composer (or any other) tag. But its still fiddly, I agree, so if you find something better be sure to let me know!
