You may wish to change your channel to a less cluttered one. Assuming you have a laptop with a wireless card, download NetStumbler: http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/
Filter the results using the left-hand pane to get just your own router listed. You should be able to get a bar graph continuously showing your signal strength. Change channels on the router, but note that there are only a few channels that do not overlap, 1, 6 and 11, see http://www.tomsnetworking.com/Sections-article59-page3.php But note this http://www.tomsnetworking.com/FAQ-37-Performance-16.php#486 states that there may be 4 non-overlapping channels, 1, 4, 8 and 11. That second link worked out for me - channel 8 turned out to have the highest, most stable signal in my setup. I have 7-12 wireless networks in my area so congestion is a big problem for me. As you change channels, the graph will show your signal. Note that there can be significant differences. -- Mark Lanctot ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Lanctot's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19797 _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
