That's interesting solution. Is it a PCMCIA device? Does it work with Linux?
Can you provide the name or a link to the eBay store?
You could also get USB 2.0 PCMCIA card. However, all this cost more then an 'old' desktop with a regular 3.5" ATA drive.
So, if this thing is going to sit in a corner and be a dedicated SlimServer PC, then extra cost of a laptop is not justified, in my opinion.
