when files are transcoded by the server, it is done by launching
another process to convert the file and the server simply plays back
the output stream. This leaves the server with no way to time shift
through that live stream (think of it as similar to radio at this
point). Native formats work via direct file access, so the server can
arbitrarily skip through the file. In theory, transcoded files could
have this ability in the future, but the solution is non-trivial.
