I did try it out. I was actually writing some software to interact with slimserver and it worked better in 6.5.
I switched back to see if my app would work with 6.2.1 and I guess I never switched back. When I get home tonight, I'll install another 6.5 nightly, and get on with it. bottom line: When I'm not at home, I can navigate to slimserver.pl and run it manually. That is the answer I was looking for.
