Most people recommend the Infrant ReadyNAS devices 
- and Infrant even provides a modded version of 
SlimServer to run on it.

Pricey though.  If you can stand the fan noise or 
can hide it somewhere an old PC will be as good or 
better, and certainly more flexible.
