Scenario 1 - Squeezebox running a Random Mix. Frequent long pauses between songs (often with display stating
connection lost) - I guess this is when the random songs are searched.

Until recently, I was running SlimServer 6.2.1 on a decently powered WinXP desktop box. Two wireless SB2s, usually synchronized. No dropouts in standard playback modes of MP3 or FLAC. Random Mix playback was affected as you describe.

It wouldn't happen for every track transition, but many of them. It seemed to be worse when running the two players sync'd.

After observing it for a while, I came to believe that the buffer was being starved. Most likely this was due to the fact the just as the new track started to play, and before the buffer could get much of the track loaded, the server (plugin) began searching for the next track to add to the Random Mix playlist.

If I set the Random Mix plugin not to add tracks during playback this did not occur. I got in the habit of generating a longer Mix on first load and not having it add tracks while playing.

Perhaps it could be fixed by having the plugin wait a few seconds for the buffer to come up before hitting the database for a new track.

In order to begin enjoying the 770 skin, I am now running a two or three weeks old 6.5 nightly, which has other Random Mix issues. As a result I am not using Random Mix right now. But I do love it, and look forward to this being fixed.
