I have my music files on 2 drives in my Linux fileserver. To backup, I connect a 400GB external USB drive to my Windows computer and use a tool called xxcopy
(www.xxcopy.com) xxcopy is a Windows command-line program that is very flexible, but basically I only use the /clone switch, which will mirror the source drive(s) to the destination drive. The reason I use a (slower) backup over the network is the Linux box is tucked away and hard to get at, plus it doesn't have USB 2.0.
