aubuti, thanks for the info. Yes, I've read about the bricking of the HG300; I think that was when the firmware was 1.34. The later 1.4x versions I believe are okay. I was going to purchase one, check out the firmware version, and then try an original firmware upgrade to see what happened; if it bricked then it gets RMA'd and I'd do dborn's HD trick on the replacement, if it didn't brick then great.
However, having done some more evaluation I've decided to go the KuroBox HG route and install an HD that I've already got spare, so the order's just gone in to Revolution. When the new KuroBox version comes out later this year I'll probably get one of those too.
