Strange - I've never had my encryption key cleared in 3 or 4 server/firmware updates.
Also you're aware of the security risks of WEP? Try WPA. Finally the status messages would be useful if there were connection problems. For a working connection they would go by so fast they'd be useless. This may not be an easy thing to implement.
