I had used a older HP Pentium III 450 for several years for my music
server that also had drive size support issues with the bios. To get
around the drive size limit, I installed an add in IDE card that
allowed me to use 2 120Gb drives. One in the standard drive bay and
one an empty 5.25" drive bay. I don't remember the brand but the
cards for IDE or SATA can be found for less than $20. I found that
linux gave the best performance on the older hardware, especially
with a slimmed down install of linux.

Cheers Mark!
Interesting links, will need to have a play I think!
The SlimCD with the new operating system looks pretty easy to use,
which is a big plus for me.
I remember doing a lot of looking around for info on the largest
hdd it
could hande, and 20 was the largest I found which was said to work....
hmmmmm.....QNAP (done and dusted but not cheap) or old fav pc (fiddly
and cheap)..... think I'll check out the 48bit brain thing first, as I
guess this would mess up the whole storage idea if its a tad out of
date. Ah! now I've actually given up on my external Lacie drive, I
have a f/wire USB pci card going spare, maybe my old pc would like to
have a go with it.
Thanks again for the rather useful links!
