I just bought a pair of Yamaha 250's They were 1/2 price at Futureshop (Canadian's Best Buy) for 9 bucks.
They are overkill but sound nice, I power them with a sonic T-amp and have it around 1/2 volume for a nice sound. Full volume is loud enough to wake the neighbours. I'd also recommend some of the Audiosource speakers, I was going to get the LS200's that get good reviews and are only 60bucks or so !
