This still makes me wonder if it would really be so hard to have Slimserver pull Artist/Album/Track/Title from one of the many music databases out there and use the retireved information, if found, instead of what is in the tag. You know, all the code is probably already written. For instance, check out this site: http://musicbrainz.org
And now, check out this module on CSPAN: http://search.cpan.org/~svanzoest/MusicBrainz-Queries-0.09/Queries.pm If feature enabled, if internet connection, once song accessed/starts playing, use the MusicBrainz database for Artist/Album/Track/Title if found from what is in the mp3 tag. Performance hit? No clue, but when these databases are accessed to pull information using ripping utilities its pretty darn fast.
