Saint - Coincidentally I just got a new LinkStation last Friday (5/26) and went through the whole process of installing SlimServer. It wasn't entirely smooth, but it's worth it. The combo of SqueezeBox and SlimServer and Internet Radio and CD's is amazing...
If your LinkStation is totally new, it's probably the MIPSEL version and thus the instructions on the FieldNetworks site only work up to a point... if I understod them right. The flash process worked well (ensure you use the indented notes for LinkStation II which will refer you to the LinkStation wiki), I was able to telnet into the re-flashed LinkStation well, and was also able to download the SlimServer Linux version and transfer the files to the LinkStation, all with no problem. But in trying to run it, I got a message about modules missing and a message about running a script to create them. Things got complicated at that point; I recommend the following thread as a good resource. I was able to finally get the LinkStation working by using it, especially the post beginning with "Owennewo, I followed the instructions in ...." http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=21748&highlight=Linkstation+CPAN Also check out http://linkstationwiki.org/Articles/MIPSelSlimServer Hope this helps. I lost track of all the things I was doing without understanding them. I remember the following: - downloaded development tools and un-tar'd them using an install.sh script (which didn't work with the Microsoft telnet I was using, be sure to use a telnet utility that sends just CR's rather than CR/LF character combinations -- I think that was the problem since it ultimately worked by using Ctrl+Enter rather than just Enter) - compiled them, which gave errors about "cc" not being found - had to set up an alias for cc pointing to gcc instead - went to something called a CPAN site to download a bunch of stuff which I copied to the linkstation - took a long time Patience helped a lot, though it was a challenge. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable could've done it much faster. Good luck. It's worth it. - Robert -- Robert ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Robert's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5684 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24238 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
