Could be controlled with a PDA and software like NetRemote. Although,
probably not a lot of people know than things like NetRemote exist.

Not necessarily, depending on your player software. For instance, in J
River Media Center, you can set up zones and each zone can have a
different output.

Basically, this is how I do my pool-side audio now, but instead of
multiple sound cards (or a "virtual" sound card), I use the front and
rear channels on a single sound card. I have JRMC set up with two zones
— one goes out to front left & right where I have my PC speakers
connected, and the other goes to rear left & right where I have my
outdoor speakers connected. When I'm listening to music outside, I
control it with NetRemote on my PDA. I never hear the PC sounds
outside, plus I don't get the outdoor tunes playing through the PC
speakers. I know, this has nothing to do with Sondigo (hate the name),
but I'm pretty proud of myself for figuring it all out. :-p
