Searching through these forums I have found lots of "wake on lan" posts. Nearly all of which indicate that wireless wake on lan is not supported by most wifi chipsets.
I am buying a new laptop and after doing some research it appears that Intel's latest wifi chipset (Intel Pro Wireless 3945) does support WOL. See here http://tinyurl.com/qhfd7 for more information. As the 3945 chipset is shipped in all the newer Centrino branded laptops there must be quite a few of them out there by now.
