I have two Linux based devices (the Qnap and a Nokia 770) and I know nothing about Linux. It really isn't a problem. Copying music over, once the Qnap is set up on your network, is done by drag and drop, cut and paste, or ripping directly to the Qnap music directory instead of your C:\ drive. The Qnap drive shows up under 'My Computer' in XP and you can treat it like any other drive.
