Had a dig through our office supply catalogue at work this afgternoon and discovered Bisley (filing cabinet people) make media cabinets. they look pretty good too...well, i mean, well made and sturdy, not exactly design icons though.
http://www.bisley.com/professionalmedia.asp readily available from most office furniture stores and retailers i think. so they should be available semi-locally to wherever you are. a single unit holding ~480 CDs would be about £259 online.
