For one thing, Linux takes its sweet time before it begins configuring
devices; I get the penguin icon in the upper left corner, then it sits
there about three minutes. Once it starts again, a bunch of I/O errors
appear for each drive, ending with two lines for each:
This is no good sign :-/
Mount: You must specify the filesystem type
What happens if you try to mount them manually:
sudo mount -t vfat /dev/hde1 /mnt/hde
(replace hdf1 with whatever the partition actually is called, vfat with
ext2 if it's linux).
In Midnight Commander, all I can see under hde and hdf is the .. entry,
but I suppose that's because they aren't mounted.
I guess you're talking about /mnt/hde? Then you're right, it's the empty
mount point.
There's a new project called DSL-N (Damn Small Linux - Not):
http://damnsmalllinux.org/dsl-n/
Would you mind downloading this and give it a try? It's a project related
to DSL (which is the base of SlimCD), but comes with a 2.6.x kernel with
improved hardware support. I was considering it as the new base for
upcoming SlimCD versions. Would be interesting to know whether it fixes
your issue.
