Sorry for the longish post but does anyone have any ideas about this
before I contact support?

I bought a wireless squeezebox 3 in December and it has been working
perfectly until last night.

I was listening to an internet radio stream (through slimserver, not
squeezenetwork) when the player made a pfft/buzz kind of noise and
crashed and went blank. I needed to unplug it and plug it in again to
get it to turn back on. I played the stream again and after about a
minute it died again. Following another reboot I tried some mp3s
instead and the same thing happened. Then I left it on for about half
an hour doing nothing and it seemed fine, but as soon as I tried to
play something that was it.

After this it needed to be unplugged a couple of times to get it back
on again. I thought at first it might be slimserver so I connected to
squeezenetwork and tried the stream again and again it failed.
Now after rebooting it would get as far as the logo on boot up before
flickering and dying again. After a few more attempts I got it on and
tried restoring factory settings, but the same thing kept happening.

At this point it was getting very hard to even get it to turn on at all
and when it did it would die after a few seconds. When I finally got it
going I put it straight into standby and left it for the night. This
morning it was still in standby, so I thought I would leave it on (but
not playing) while I went to work, but after flicking through the menu
for about 10 seconds it died again and I have not been able to get it
to turn on since.

I don't think it's just the display because the music would stop and
slimserver cannot find it. I was going to try connecting it with wires
but I've not had it stay on long enough to configure it that way and
the rest of my network is working fine.

I run slimserver on a dedicated machine in the spare room. The only
strange thing was it originally crashed at the moment when I remote
desktopped to the slimserver machine, but seeing as being connected the
squeezenetwork does the same thing I'm sure it's a hardware problem.
Slimserver itself seems to working fine with software players.
I have tested the power supply with a meter and it seems to be OK.

Has anyone else had anything similar happen?

I get the feeling it's going to have to go back to get sorted.

(System specs for the server are slimserver 6.2.1 on an old PIII
700ish, 512Mb RAM, 3 hard drives, WinXP SP1)
