Radish - thanks for the pointer, I followed that up and found some threads there, including onward pointers to even more helpful stuff over at AV forums. It would seem that this is a common problem with European Panasonics, which do input selection differently from North American ones (which might explain why yours just worked!). Still, I have something to go on now, so I'll see where it takes me...
