Like many Qnap TS-101 owners, i have been having problems putting my
Qnap to sleep after what ever time period is set on the Qnap admin
settings for the HDD shutdown.

I have now got mine to sleep for the 1st time time by one simple
change. I changed my SB screensaver display settings for power
off/inactive state from displaying "Time/Date" to "None". So when the
SB is powered off the SB display is "blank" which allows the Qnap to
sleep as it is NOT being polled for the time by the SB. Then by
powering up the SB with the Red power button the Qnap wakes from it's
slumbers and purrs into action.

With reference to my above posting several days ago which I notice has
solved most users "Sleep" issues, I would like to add an additional
stage...............which is that once you have made the above changes
to the default screensaver, THEN you need to power off your SB's as if
they are already in the "Power Off" state they will still retain the
old screensaver which contains to poll the time..........or just reboot
the Qnap which will break the link. Lastely I confirm that the above
problem was solved with the ORIGINAL firmware.........I also confirm
that the new Firmware allows it to sleep OK.

I do not believe the continuing issue with the HDD not powering down is
a Qnap issue, I believe it will be local PC services such as Virus or
Spyware scans, Google Desktop indexing, etc which by default look @ all
HDD's.
