No, I believe the problem is that browser access can't wake the
computer.  To wake a sleeping computer, the ethernet port has to
receive a "magic packet" that wakes it up, a.k.a. the "wake-on-LAN
packet."  The Squeezebox is configured to send such a packet, hence it
can wake a sleeping computer.  Web browsers do not send the magic
packet, however, so if you're trying to access a sleeping computer, it
will not respond.

Essentially, you cannot wake the server via simple browser access.
