My SlimServer is also my main desktop: - Athlon 64 X2 4600+ - Scythe SCNJ-1000 heatsink - Yate Loon D12SL-12 fan in top of case; speed-controlled via motherboard - GeForce 7800GT - Zalman ZM80D-HP / ZM80D-IK1 heatsink - Yate Loon D12SL-12 fan, blowing across heatsink; wired to 5 volts - Samsung Spinpoint 200gb hard drive - Soft-mounted with rubber grommets - Antec Phantom 500W fanless power supply - Vantec Stealth 80mm fan, wired to 5 volts, cooling hard drive and PSU - Abit AN8-SLI motherboard (fanless heatpipe cooling) - 2GB DDR400 RAM - NEC ND-3540A DVD burner - Debian Sid
It's incredibly quiet; the fans are all under 800 RPM when the CPU is idling (with Cool'n'Quiet). I haven't measured the power consumption since I replaced the processor (used to be a single-core 3500+), though. Advantages: extremely quiet, extremely fast Disadvantages: expensive, absurdly heavy, nowhere near portable At some point I'd like to get rid of the hard drive and move it to a file server in the basement; either I'll do diskless boot (with a dedicated GigE link), or get some sort of hardware ramdisk. - Jacob _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
