Since you have another computer other than the slim server, just record the stream on that directly from download using audacity or whatever you already downloaded. As it records, save it to the network share that is your Slim library folder. Now it is ready for slim playback at your command.
If your recording application will not work when slim server is running, you might try debugging the reason why? I am not expert in this, but as long as windows XP is doing its job and the programs in use are well written, there should be no interference between programs, even hardware dependent. Unfortunately this is not always the case, especially for free downloaded software.
