If you using Windows - this problem can be caused by some processors
(e.g AMD Athlon T'bird, VIA).

What OS and what processor are you using.

If you using Windows, unzip and replace mplayer by the following
http://homepage.eircom.net/~altondsl/slim/mplayer.zip

This is a later version of mplayer and cured this problem for one user
recently.
