I second Michael's suggestion regarding SSH, although hamachi is interesting so I will take a look at that.
My suggestion would be to go the SSH route, although that does have some overhead for encrypting/decrypting the stream. It is easy to set up though. If you are running Linux make sure you have OpenSSH installed, if you are on Windows installed Cygwin with the OpenSSH package (http://www.cygwin.com), then you just need to open port 22 inbound to your SSH server (probably the same as your slimserver machine). With that up and running, you have a couple of choices for streaming your music remoteley: 1. Use SoftSqueeze, which has an SSH client built in, and supports SOCKS proxying, 2. Open an SSH tunnel yourself using an SSH client on port 9000, and stream your music as MP3, and listen to it using winamp, xmms, whatever. Hope that helps!
