I got my fingers burned with the .deb package. When I first read about
slim debian package a few months ago I was really pleased. So I
installed it. And then I discovered it was 6.5 beta! It totally screwed
my system up.
I was really miffed at the .deb being the 6.5b1 and not 6.3.0, which
was the stable release at the time.
Since then I've compiled manually....
If you think about, that's probably the reason that the .deb was part of the beta. It wasn't ready for prime-time, but it's come a long ways since then. I can't promise you won't have *any* problems. I will be glad that when 6.5.1 comes out I can just do apt-get update && apt-get upgrade.
