One of the SlimDevices guys (i think it was Dean) stated in the past that right now they haven't done a huge amount of optimisation on the SQL queries for scanning. As they were moving to MySQL in 6.5 i think they just wanted it to work reliably before they spend time on optimising and tweaking.
