I really don't see why it is so hard to incorporate this functionality. Wouldn't it be a simple matter of keeping a list of PATH_TO_MUSIC_FOLDERS in the database, or in the config file ... the scanner just iterates through the list as it completes the scanning process until it's out of paths... Another benefit of this is that you can then build functionality around this like segregated music libraries (Wife's stuff, My Stuff, Party Stuff, whatever...), without having to go through the trouble of tagging all your songs in some way to help you identify them.
