In Server Settings / Filetypes you can control what conversions take place. The default, I think, is to FLAC, but you can choose to force it to use WAV or even MP3.
If you haven't already, do download the software and have a play, using Softsqueeze as the player. 6.5.1 nightly is recommended. Even WAV should be ok over wireless as long as you haven't got too much interference, though - 1.4Mbits.
