I've also had significiant problems with albums that are tagged well
enough for iTunes and Windows Media player, but don't show up in the
Slim Server except by song name but No Artist, no Album. This was not
an issue with the previous implementation of Slimserver.

Since iTunes organizes the files with their names, Slimserver can
figure out the song name based on the file, but it has none of the more
detailed tag info.

This is the case on my Windows XP box, but when I use the exact same
files (on an external drive) on my Macintosh, Simserver works as
intended. I therefore think there's a problem in the Windows
implementation that's not present in the Mac version.

Most of my MP3's were all ripped on a Mac using a LAME encoder. Why
some of these work on the PC, and other's don't is beyond me.

One thing I've noted is that lost MP3 tag info happens more with albums
that have multiple disks. I have a habit of identifying the disk in a
series in the tags, (e.g. 1 of 2), but I also include that information
in the album title (e.g. "Physical Graffiti (1/2)" which gets
translated in the file folder structure to "Physical Graffiti 1_2"

I also took a look at the ID3 tags, they are v2.2 or v2.3. DB Power
Amp sees the tag info as well and I don't have multiple tag versions in
the files like other people have mentioned.
