I complained about this before, and no one ever answered it. I am now
running 6.5 in SUSE 10.1. When I play many pieces, there is a stutter a
second or two into the start of each track. The same tracks play
flawlessly in WinAmp.
What causes this? Is there a way to fix this? It is VERY annoying.

There's two possible causes, AFAIK -- you're transcoding from one format into another, and the transcoder is having issues; or, your network is dodgy for the task at hand.
The former is relatively rare, but does happen; the latter is very common and usually takes several days to adequately diagnose, most of which is spent in the Kubler-Ross stages of denial and anger.
