Ah I see (sorry about the grumpy tone of my answer). Email sounds like
a really painful way to read forums if you just get to see the latest
posting rather than the whole thread! Doesn't that mean that you'll
frequently be missing the context of posts unless the same information
is contantly repeated in new posts?
I guess it is better than nothing though (if you can't get to the
website due to workplace security restrictions etc.)
Email apps are much faster and better able to handle threaded conversations which are pushed to you; I'd be a lot less active on here if the forum was the only way to use it, which I know because of the complete lack of help I provide on the sites I use which only provide fora. For one thing, every last one of them has a different username/password requirement and many of them have code to prevent your browser auto-saving that info, so I end up having to ask for a reminder email every time I go try to use the forum... and every one of them has a different place to do that. With all the stupid avatars and page formatting and the thread ends up taking three times as long to read, and I end up missing a lot of conversations that I would have otherwise read.
The reason that the email user didn't remember the bug number is because they were deleting the earlier mails. Changing your mind about the importance of a conversation is not something technology can readily solve, though the "view this thread" link to the forums in all the emails is a cool feature that can help :)
