OS working? I don't think so.
If it wasn't, neither MS nor Apple would be where they are today: Windows 2003 wouldn't be as stable as it is thanks to the increased pressure from those OS systems, and Apple OS X would not come with such product as Apache, Samba, Konqueror (just to name a few) integrated.
