mherger, said that when running scanner.exe manually it uses different priveliges to when its run from the server web interface. I store all my music on an external USB hard drive, which I have done for over a year now, but the problem has only occured over the last month.
If your using an external disk, then you should be fine (concerning the permissions issue I mentioned).
Please turn on the d_info and d_scan debugging flags before starting the next rescan from the web interface. You'll then get a logfile full of useful information. And it's the last few lines before the crash which are of interest. Please post them here.
